Tea Mate - Peach Blossom
Peach blossom has a delicate, elegant aroma with a slight fruity note. When combined with tea, it enhances the smoothness of the brew, making it more gentle and palatable.
Peach blossoms are widely distributed across Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, and Yunnan provinces, with Jiangnan (southern China) being particularly renowned for its beautiful peach blossoms.
Peach blossoms have long symbolized beauty and romance. The Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi famously wrote in The Song of Everlasting Sorrow, “The peach blossom pond is a thousand feet deep, yet it cannot match Wang Lun’s an affection for me.” In ancient times, noblewomen believed peach blossom tea could enhance their beauty. When paired with white tea, peach blossoms maintain the tea’s refreshing taste while adding a delicate floral and fruity note.
The History of Flowers and Tea: A Fragrant Legacy Through Time:
In ancient Jiangnan, women loved to host “Peach Blossom Tea Gatherings” in the springtime. Dressed in flowing silk robes, they strolled through peach blossom orchards, picking dew-kissed petals at dawn and gently infusing them into delicate white tea. The result was a tea with a soft floral and fruity fragrance, reminiscent of spring itself.
One legend tells of the Song Dynasty poet Su Shi, who, while traveling in Jiangnan, visited an ancient temple where a monk served him peach blossom white tea. As the pink petals floated on the surface of the tea, their beauty mirrored the poetry of spring. The refreshing tea, with its delicate floral aftertaste, filled Su Shi’s heart with joy. Inspired, he later wrote, “The peach blossoms drift away with the water, leading to another world beyond the mortal realm.” From that moment on, peach blossom tea became a favorite among poets and scholars, symbolizing romance, renewal, and eternal youth.
